Make a little bit of money back on your shopping by using a cashback site. When shopping online, visit a retailer’s website via a cashback website and you can get back a small percentage of what you pay. This is because some retailers will pay other websites a commission for sending people to their websites. Cashback sites then pass some of this commission on to the consumer.
We’re going to use Top Cashback as an example of this kind of site. However, there are other popular cashback sites that are just as effective.
You’ll need:
- a computer with an internet connection
- a credit or debit card
Follow these step-by-step instructions on how to use cashback sites
Step 1: Go to the Top Cashback website.
Step 2: You’ll be invited to join up, which is free. Type in your email address and a password, then click on the Join Now button.
Step 3: You will receive an email to the address you gave when you signed up asking you to Authenticate your account click on this to open a new window and continue your sign up procedure
Step 4: There are a number of options available for you here including Free cashback. Click on this link to see more.
Step 5: If you are ready to go shopping you can either search for the store you want by typing into the Search by store box or by clicking on one of the categories such as Electricals
Step 6: The new page will give you details of any offers available from a retailer. There may be more than one or there may be different offers for different products. We have chosen the first option.
Step 7: In this instance we have searched for Argos. To find out what is available from this retailer click on Get Cashback Now
Step 8: Once you have clicked on this Top Cashback will redirect you to the site you want to use. This is how they record which sites you visit so that the cashback can be calculated.
Step 9: Once you have been on the site you should see this notice when you return to Top Cashback.
Step 10: To check your account click on the button on the top right of the screen.
Step 11: The account overview will tell you what money you have earned.
If you do have money in your account you can choose how you would like this paid to you either via a direct payment
Or you can choose to take payment as a voucher or e-gift card from one of a list of shops or food and drink sellers. There are quite a few choices and you do not have to spend all in one place but can split the value over several places if that is what you would like to do.
It’s important to note that occasionally a claim will be declined and you won’t receive any money. This might be because anti-virus software on your computer has prevented your purchase being tracked back to the cashback site. Cashback sites will usually investigate if claims are declined, so you may receive your money after waiting longer than usual.
