Downloads are an increasingly popular way for music fans to buy albums and singles, with digital sales increasing by over 25% in 2011 alone.
There are numerous sites and services that allow you legally – and safely – download music, with Apple’s iTunes Store being the best known. However, unless you use an Apple device like the iPhone, iPad or iPhone, you will need to look at a different service.
Amazon’s MP3 Store is a good place to start your search. Not only can music bought from Amazon be played on Apple devices, but it can also be used on most other MP3 players. Here is how to find and buy music on Amazon’s service.
You’ll need:
- a computer with access to the internet, ideally through a broadband connection
- an active Amazon account.
Follow these step-by-step instructions to download music
Step 1: Open your internet browser and type amazon.co.uk into the address bar.
Step 2: At the top of Amazon’s homepage you will see a large search bar with a drop down menu to the left of it labelled ‘All Departments’.
Click on the drop down and select MP3 Downloads. Next, type the name of the band, artist, album or single name into the search box. Click GO or hit enter on your keyboard.
Step 3: A new webpage will load with the results for your search term. Once you find the song you are looking for, click the 1-Click button on the right-hand side of the page.
Step 4: You will now be prompted to download the Amazon MP3 Downloader. Read the Detailed Installation Instructions section on this page, click Download now and follow Amazon’s step-by-step set-up guide.
Step 5: Once the download is complete and the Amazon MP3 Downloader has been installed on your machine, your internet browser will reopen with a message confirming successful installation. You will also be prompted to continue with your purchase. Click on Complete my 1-Click purchase.
Step 6: You will now need to log-in to your Amazon account. Enter the email address and password you usually use to make Amazon purchases.
Step 7: Finally, you just need to confirm your purchase. If you still want to download the music, click Place your order.
The Amazon MP3 Downloader will now open and the song will start to download.
When the Amazon MP3 Downloader saves any purchased music to your computer, it is stored in the ‘Amazon MP3′ folder located within the ‘My Music’ folder in Windows by default.
