This is an in-depth guide, covering how social value commitments (SVCs) are created and evaluated and exploring it as a mechanism for business and industry to deliver change.

This guide draws on years of experience, most notably with Capgemini, who we've worked with iteratively to explore SVCs in the pursuit of digital inclusion and skills. It's been a journey for us all: for them as the supplier, for us as a delivery partner, and for the communities the work aims to serve. And we're still all learning - about delivery styles, measurement, and sustainability in particular. We are now confident that SVCs have real potential to support local digital inclusion on a national scale, especially in a very tough funding environment for community-based DI work. We want to share what we've learnt so far in the hope that open conversation and shared good practice can amplify the benefits for everyone involved.

Who's it for?

This guide focuses on the opportunity and potential of the suppliers of social value commitments. It is however useful to a wider audience, including those:

  • with a general interest in digital inclusion and in social value
  • in strategy and policy, both in public and private sector
  • in businesses tendering for public sector contracts (supplier side)
  • in public sector procurement, wanting to understand the supplier perspective
