We work with education providers ranging from primary schools to universities and have a specific framework for organisations that want to run student placements or community volunteering programmes.
Our products are ideal for:
- Higher education providers that want to provide aligned and valuable student volunteering and/ or meet EDI curriculum requirements. These kind of programmes often use both the Digital Champions Network and Inspire.
- Secondary schools that want to train young people to become Digital Champions themselves, to help other students or people in the community. This is being trialled by our friends at Digital Kent.
- Schools who want to help parents deal with digital procedures (like applying for free school meals or secondary school places).
Student placements
Our courses are often used by higher education organisations as way to create fulfilling student community placements and meet extra requirements for degrees. We have a specific framework to help colleges understand their needs and deliver student awareness and volunteering programmes that:
- Unpack digital inclusion, turning students into “Digital Champions” who understand the issues and can help others with digital skills.
- Count towards wider qualification requirements/ credits ranging from EDI goals to volunteering placements
- Contribute to wider personal professional development and align with the subjects they’re studying.
Colleges often use a combination of Inspire, as a quick way to get lots of students understanding and tackling digital exclusion, and the Digital Champions Network which is more in-depth training suitable for students going on to formal placements.
Case Studies
For students working with older patients
The School of Allied Health Professions at Keele University took a cohort of physiotherapy students through Inspire who went on to help friends and family. A smaller group went on to train on the DCN and and volunteer in the community.
For Foreign Students
In this collaboration between the digital inclusion team at Camden Council and the American Institute for Foreign Study, students completed training on the Digital Champions Network before spending time as Champions volunteering in locations across Camden.
We are thrilled to have partnered with Digital Unite and local digital support groups, providing students with the opportunity to apply their skills while supporting communities with limited digital literacy.
