What is Inspire and who is it for?

Inspire is a quick, interactive eLearning course that covers what digital exclusion is and why its matters. Learners are encouraged to think about how it affects other people, their organisation and their own role. Then they're encouraged to make a pledge to help someone they know with a digital skill.

What kind of organisations use it?

Our clients range from global tech consultants and financial institutions to local councils and universities. If you have customers, clients, residents or beneficiaries you need to make sure your organisation is digitally inclusive.

What kind of people do it?

Inspire is designed to be useful for everybody in an organisation, whatever their role or team. It embeds digitally inclusive thinking throughout  - it's not the silo'd responsibility of one team.

Is it just for staff?

It's for everybody! Some organisations use it to underpin volunteer programmes but others use it to encourage (and Inspire!) volunteers. We know a lot of our clients, especially local authorities, work very closely with the voluntary sector and Inspire benefits them too.

How does it fit with the Digital Champions Network?

Inspire is used to embed digital inclusion across all teams and departments, not just ones involved in digital skills or learning. The Champions Network is more in-depth training for people who are going to formally help others with digital skills. So a senior manager in an admin role would benefit from Inspire; a front-facing volunteer in a library needs the Digital Champions Network. Here's more about both products and how to pick the right one.

How much does it cost?

Our prices depend on the kind of organisation you are, the size of your project and the amount of support your want. Here's our price list

What are the benefits for my organisation?

Digitally inclusive organisations have..

  • Happy customers and service users who can confidently use digital services and feel that the organisation is listening to them.
  • Happy staff and/or volunteers with the skills they need to do their jobs and to help their customers & co-workers.
  • A healthy bottom line: there are huge returns in having digitally confident customers and colleagues for both public and private sector.

The Learning

What do people learn and how?

The course explains how digital exclusion affects people and the harm it causes. It takes a learner through some scenarios and asks them to think differently about how them might help before leading them to pledging. It's interactive and bitesized and based on real stories which are tailored to be relevant to your sector. It's CPD certified.

This is a free sample course from the Digital Champions Network - it's not exactly the same as the Inspire course but demonstrates how our learning works.

How is it delivered?

It can be done..

  • Online, as self-directed eLearning, any time anywhere on any device. This takes about 40 minutes.
  • Via a workshop - online or person. This takes 1-2 hours, depending on how long you want for discussion and reflection.

Learners make their pledge online and can return to the course online as many times as they like for a year.

Which is better?

They both have their plus points! Workshops are a great way to boost engagement and get people involved but they need diarising and delivering. Most organisations use a mixture, depending on who is doing the course and when.

Who delivers the workshop?

We can if you need us to but we provide comprehensive resources so you can do it yourself. Some organisations use a cascade model, where keen Inspire "graduates" go on to learn to be workshops facilitators themselves - this is a great way of getting the whole organisation on board.

What does CPD certified mean?

CPD stands for "Continuing Professional Development" and if training is "CPD certified" by the CPD Service it means it reaches certain standards and benchmarks. It's a quality mark which means you know the training is worthwhile.

How does pledging work?

Pledging brings home the fact that we all know people who struggle with digital skills.

It makes it personal and real.

It shows us how doing something small can make a big difference to someone else. And people can swiftly see the benefits of their actions.

The course provides prompts to help people decide who they want to help but most people know by the time they reach the end.  Around 80% of workshop attendees pledge there and then.

What kind of pledges do people make?

Pledges are usually focused round friends, family and colleagues. Most start small and close to home. Some pledgers help out in their local community, at schools or libraries or in community groups. Lots of people come back and pledge more than once.

Here are some pledges that were fulfilled...

I helped my friend by giving him the confidence and knowledge to advertise his business online.

I helped my mum learn how to internet bank. She's scared of doing it but needed to learn. I did it at HER own pace.

I helped my niece. She’d just started secondary school and had lots of homework online. She’s great on a phone but she’s hardly ever used a computer.

Project Management resources

How do you get started?

We provide full support to get your project up and running, with help from our friendly team and lots of guides including:

  • Project Manager Manual and onboarding documents.
  • Delivery Guide (including a full guide on getting engagement in your organisation).
  • Workshop Facilitation Notes and slides.
On-going support?

We're here to support you and will help with any questions you have. There's tech support during working hours and a webinar every quarter run by our CEO, Emma Weston, to deal with your queries and share challenges & solutions with other people in your role.

The platform itself also provides support to learners, prompting them to complete stages with automated emails and keeping them informed about their progress.

What if you want more?

We provide a range of additional services like admin support (like pulling out data for reports), strategic planning (like impact measurement and analysis) and workshop delivery. There's a list of prices here.

How do you report on impact?

Inspire comes with tools to make this easy, including in-depth monitoring, visual dashboards and exportable data sets. People can report on hard figures - like numbers completing - as well as softer ones, like changes in attitudes.

What's the deal for corporates?

Our corporate package comes with one day a month of consultancy support and regular reports and recommendations at months 6 and 12.

Does everyone do the same version?

There are two main versions of Inspire - one for the private and one for the public sector. They both work the same way but the content is tailored so it's relevant to the learners.

We can also create a version of Inspire that's just for you organisation, using your branding, language and scenarios. We've done one for insurers, NFU Mutual and here's more about our content creation services.

Can you customise it?

The standard version of Inspire is customised with your logo and contact details on the Inspire dashboard so all your learners know who to contact. You can also change the text on "What's Next?" - which is the final slide to prompt people to a certain action or send them to a URL.
