"I attended the taster days and now I'm on the computer every night. It's so exciting to be able to talk with my son in Sweden and see him."

Three organisations have been shortlisted for the Spring Online Best Event Awards 2013 in association with Carphone Warehouse which will be presented by Joan Bakewell on Tuesday 11 June 2013.

Citizens Online in Bristol, Knightstone Housing Association in Bath and Connect <> Lockleaze in Bristol were successfully chosen by an independent panel of judges from the hundreds of Spring Online digital taster events for the way they helped local people to get online.

  • The Citizens Online team went along to a silver screening at their local Odeon cinema armed with loaned iPads and laptops to show older people how easy and useful digital technology can be.
  • Knightstone Housing Association linked up with a host of local organisations including a team of CSV volunteers to help 30 older people to get online.
  • The Connect <> Lockleaze team held their event at a local soft play centre helping parents to learn and improve their digital skills.

The overall winner will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in London which is taking place as part of the national digital conference, ND13 and will take home a mobile classroom of three Sony Notepads, generously donated by Carphone Warehouse.

Broadcaster and journalist, Joan Bakewell will be there to present the awards and commend all of the Spring Online 2013 event holders who helped 20,000 people get to grips with digital technology, many for the first time.
