We *may* have mentioned a few times that we love monitoring and evaluation. It’s a really crucial part of our work: to step back and think about what we’re doing, why and if it’s working.
When we set up frameworks, we try to ensure the things we measure are:
- Genuinely useful
- Reasonably easy to measure (You should never have to stop doing the real work to measure the real work).
- It actually contributes to the real work. This can be the hardest thing of all particularly when you're looking at monitoring something new/ untried.
In the last rounds of M&E we've been looking at...
How we monitor the progress of Let's Get Digital projects
When we started running these SVC projects, we used some standard metrics like numbers of Champions trained or learners helped to measure progress. As the programme has matured, we've realised that though this is helpful for some organisations, it doesn't tell the full picture. So one of the ways we’re started evaluating project is through the…
Digital inclusion maturity framework
We set this up to look at where an organisation is on its DI journey: from Step 1, which is a growing awareness of what DI is, to Step 5, where DI is embedded across everything an organisation does.
On Let’s Get Digital, we work with people to see where they are and provide tools, support, advice, peers – whatever they need to help them move onto the next step.
Its working really well and …
- It is genuinely useful in measuring our impact. We can chart meaningful progress
- It is reasonably easy to measure – it’s clear where organisations are on the scale (no-one gets to the end of the project and needs to retro-fill forms)
- It actually contributes to what we’re doing. It’s really helpful for organisations to think about where they and reflect on what, with our help, they want to achieve next.
It’s yet another reason we love M&E.
