The Post Office and Fujitsu have come together in a bid to help more people to get online as part of the national Spring Online campaign.

Free internet taster events are being held at Post Office Crown Branches in Reading and Bracknell where teams of Fujitsu employees will be visiting with laptops in hand to show customers how to get the most out of life online.

The aim of these Spring Online events is to give people a taste of the internet and inspire them to make technology a part of their everyday life. Currently around 6.7 million people have never used the internet and of those 5.8 million are aged over 55 years. Many millions more lack basic online skills meaning they can’t use a search engine or send an email.

Spring Online in association with Carphone Warehouse is delivered by Digital Unite.  For one week each year (31 March – 4 April), hundreds of free Spring Online events are held across the UK in a variety of locations to help people to take their first steps online.

Alan Taylor, Community and Social Responsibility Manager for the Post Office said: “At the Post Office we’re passionate about helping and encouraging people to improve their digital skills, from our Get Connected scheme which helps customers find local computer training support to taking an active part in campaigns such as Spring Online. We’re delighted to be linking up with Fujitsu in this way to inspire more people to have a lasting use of the internet. ”

Mark Arnold, Head of Business Management at Fujitsu said: “Digital technology has changed dramatically over the years and having the skills to use it is now a must-have in today’s society. We know that to truly harness the power of technology it’s not just about providing the services and products but also about giving the right support and confidence to use them. By working with the Post Office for Spring Online 2014 we hope to bring down some of the barriers people face with getting online.”
