Places for People logoPlaces for People has become the newest housing member of Digital Unite’s Digital Champions Network as part of the national Lottery funded One Digital programme.

Working with its affordable housing providers, Places for People Homes, Derwent Living, Castle Rock Edinvar and Luminus, the housing group will be using the Network to train and support staff and engaged customers as Digital Champions.

Research shows that around 11m people in the UK have limited digital skills and 18% of adults claiming benefits (1.2 million) have low or no digital capability[1]. Embedding a Digital Champion model is now a proven way of successfully improving digital participation as learners need and want personal and long-term digital skills support.

Pat Egan, Group Executive Director of Affordable Housing at Places for People said “Part of our overall vision is to help communities thrive and digital inclusion is a key part of that. Empowering our customers to be online through friendly and tailored Digital Champion support can make a massive difference to people’s lives. The Digital Champions Network gives us a structured platform to provide high quality and structured training and resources to our staff and volunteers as well as the tools to cohere and manage all of the activity nationwide.”

About the Digital Champions Network

Digital Unite’s Digital Champions Network is a unique and comprehensive training and support system for aspiring and experienced Digital Champions. It offers a wide range of self-study online courses to develop a Digital Champion’s skillset and meet different learner needs. All of the courses are linked to the national Open Badges schemes to evidence personal and professional development and the foundation training is CPD accredited. There is also a structured Resource Centre collating over 500 ready-to-use training and teaching resources and a web app enabling Champions to access the Network when they’re out and about.
