Let's Get Digital (LGD) is a scheme that supports community organisations to help people learn digital skills. We already run one project in West Cumbria and one in Durham. Now we're opening up a new one in Newcastle. It's funded by global tech consultants Capgemini, which means it's completely free for the organisations who join.
Answers to your questions!
What is it? A free scheme to help organisations help people get the digital skills they need for everyday life.
How does it work? Organisations get training and support to turn staff and volunteers into “Digital Champions” who can safely and confidently help others with digital skills. This is a mixture of online training for champions (bite-sized, completed any time); project management tools and support for organisations from an in-person co-ordinator to help get things up and running, access opportunities and link local organisations together.
Who can apply? Community organisations and charities in the Newcastle area. The project is open to everyone and we're especially keen to work with organisations helping older people.
How long does it last? The initial support programme is for a year, though most organisations stay like to stay for longer. Once your Champions are trained, they can support people forever!
How long does it take? Applications take about 4 weeks to process. Champions can usually start after about 4-6 hours of training (but lots more is available depending on who they’re helping) It usually takes 3-6 months to get everything going.
