City West Homes has become the newest housing member of Digital Unite’s Digital Champions Network.
Joining as part of the national Lottery funded One Digital programme, City West Homes provides housing for over 12,000 social housing tenants and 9,000 leaseholders in central London on behalf of Westminster City Council.
The organisation is looking to train up to 50 staff and local partners as Champions so they can go on to give ongoing digital skills support to their residents. Being part of the Network gives City West a structured way to develop their existing support and accredited tools to formally recognise the role colleagues and volunteers play in helping their communities online.
Ian Merriman, Resident Engagement Team Leader at City West Homes said “In this digital era, we cannot escape the importance of our customers being online and the intrinsic role we can play as a housing provider in helping them with that. We have already run a number of initiatives such as IT and mobile phone workshops and drop in sessions but have been exploring ways to extend our digital inclusion programme to reach more people. Joining Digital Unite’s Digital Champions Network gives us the infrastructure we need to evolve our digital skills support into a more encompassing and sustainable approach for our tenants.”
About the Digital Champions Network
Digital Unite’s Digital Champions Network is a unique and comprehensive training and support system for aspiring and experienced Digital Champions. It offers a wide range of self-study online courses to develop a Digital Champion’s skillset and meet different learner needs. All of the courses are linked to the national Open Badges schemes to evidence personal and professional development. There is also a structured Resource Centre collating over 500 ready-to-use training and teaching resources and a web app enabling Champions to record their learner interactions quickly and easily.
